They believe that Santa leave gifts in those items, not under Christmas tree like believe children from other lands. Often kids in UK are very caring – they leave mince crumpets and brandy for Father Christmas as a food and to drink for the time he visits them. Currently it’s usually alcohol-free drink because of Father Christmas has to drive his sleigh.
